Misadventures of all Sorts

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

The best way to grow?

Fuck your shit allll the way up.

Big mistakes. Epic failures. Misadventures of all sorts.

When you land sobbing on the bathroom floor, look yourself face to face in the mirror. Shudder with the shame of it all. Wring your heart out. Wipe your tears and then decide who you want to be instead. What’s the next step toward the right direction? Each misstep pointing to the next lesson. Eventually nothing will surprise you and life won’t be so scary. You won’t brace yourself for the next pitfall. Every experience builds your strength. You have done hard things, you can do them again. One foot in front of the other.

A simple, well planned path might be easy and it might be safe, but it’s also the best way to stay exactly the same. I tried this route too, I’m nothing if not a pendulum. But if you stay the same for too long, life will slap you right in the face. Because even she knows growth often needs a catalyst. Better to go off the rails by your own hand than to be blindsided by the universal crazy train. At least you can pump the brakes if you’re the engineer. So to each their own. You take the straight, paved road; I’ll opt for the winding cliffside trail.

So many of my indiscretions have led to my best Little Victories. I have landed in a beautiful life and I have the disposition of a kaleidoscope. I have awareness of all my faults, strengths and everything in between. I understand most *people*, because with such a wealth of experiences, I have gained a deep sense of empathy and can see parts of myself in most.

I can’t imagine there was any other path I could have taken to get here. A crazy train is much more fun than a passive caboose.
